Privacy policy

This policy covers the Retune website at retune.work and the Retune Companion browser extension. Retune uses your résumé to tailor it to job listings and to fill in job application forms. We only collect what that needs, we never sell your data, and we never use it for advertising.
What we collect
- Account details. When you sign in with Google, Microsoft, LinkedIn, GitHub or Facebook, we receive and store your email address, your name if the provider shares it, and which provider you used. We never see your password for that provider.
- Your base résumé. When you are signed in, we store the text extracted from the résumé you upload and a short summary of what it contains, so you do not have to upload it again.
- Your saved answers. The answers you choose to save (for example your notice period or work permit) and the details you add under “Your answers”.
- Credits and payments. Your credit balance, a history of purchases and charges, and PayPal order numbers. Payments are handled by PayPal; we never receive or store your card or bank details.
- Usage. Page-visit statistics (which pages are viewed, with a random visitor ID kept in your browser) and server error logs, used to keep the service working.
What we do not keep
Job listings you paste, your notes, the tailored résumés and cover letters we write, and follow-up questions are processed to produce your result and are not stored on our servers. They stay in your browser tab while you work and are gone when you close it. Exported PDFs are generated for download and not kept.
The Retune Companion extension
- Only when you ask. The extension reads a page only while its side panel is open on that tab. It reads the form fields on the page (their labels, options and whether they are filled in), the page title and address, and the page's visible text, to work out what the form is asking.
- What it sends. Fields it can fill from your saved details are filled on your device. For the rest, it sends those fields, the page title and address, and the page text to Retune, which returns suggested answers based on your résumé and saved answers.
- What it never does. It never submits a form, never attaches files, and does not read your browsing history or pages where you have not opened the panel.
- What it stores on your device. Only the address of the Retune server it talks to. Your sign-in is the same Retune session you use on the website.
- Answers you save. If you tick “Remember this” on a question, that answer is saved to your Retune account like any other saved answer.
The use of information received through the extension follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. It is used only to fill the application you are working on and is never sold, used for advertising, or used to decide anyone's creditworthiness.
How we use it
To sign you in, tailor your résumé and write cover letters, ask follow-up questions, fill application forms you ask it to fill, keep your balance and process credit purchases, prevent abuse, and fix problems with the service.
Who processes it
- OpenAI writes the tailored résumé, cover letter, questions and form answers. It receives your résumé text, the listing or form, and your saved answers for each request. Under OpenAI's API terms, this data is not used to train its models.
- Microsoft Azure hosts the website and stores account data, encrypted at rest.
- Login Broker handles sign-in with your chosen provider and passes back your verified email address.
- PayPal processes credit purchases.
- PageRain provides the page-visit statistics.
We share information with these providers only as needed for those functions.
Cookies and browser storage
We set one cookie, which keeps you signed in. Your work in progress is kept in your browser's session storage. Local storage holds your chosen PDF template and a random visitor ID for page-visit statistics. We use no advertising cookies and do not track you across other sites.
Security
All traffic to Retune and to the providers above is encrypted with HTTPS. Stored data is encrypted at rest. Every account endpoint requires a signed session, and your résumé and answers are reachable only by your account. Administrative access is limited to operating and supporting the service.
Retention and deletion
We keep your account data while your account exists. You can remove your stored résumé at any time by clearing it on the first step, and edit or remove saved answers under “Your answers”. You can delete your whole account at any time from the account screen (Sign in → “Delete my account”); this immediately and permanently deletes your account, résumé, saved answers, credit balance and usage history. If you cannot sign in, email us and we will do it for you. We keep records of credit purchases as long as accounting law requires, and one irreversible hash of your email address, with nothing else attached, to record that the free signup credits have been given.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, or ask us to correct or delete it. If you are in the EU or UK you also have the right to object to processing, to restrict it, and to complain to your data protection authority.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update it here and change the date at the top.
